In this blog I would like to point out some of the differences between the north and south from the tourist point of view.
- maggie noodles is the staple diet in those places. the cost of it depends on the quality of chairs you have in the motel/hotel and not on the taste .( as it is the same maggie masala noodle standardised through out the country)
- most of the hotels are vegetarian in nature.(you have to hunt frantically for non-veg hotels). but in tamilnadu the main purpose of touring is to down a few birds or cattle during the short stay.
- the water falls have no restriction on bathing costumes. men have their say in wearing next to nothing while bathing and women not far behind. while there are separate bathing stations and dress code for dipping in tamilnadu.
- there are no oil massage or fish frying stations any where near the water falls area. what a stark contrast.?
- till i visited pachmarhi i did not know that there can be forests without wildlife ( atleast life) and the jungle can be so scorching.( remembering the diversity of the western ghats)
- there are many sheer drop points in the mountains. but none are named "suicide points"
- there are no echo points named but in all places it is resounding.
- I have a doubt on the literacy level of the lovers. they have not etched their names in the rocks or trees for future reference.
- there is no littering of plastic bags in the places. volunteers are more than happy to carry it to the dust-bins.
- the road side eateries are uniformly named dhabbas. but no taste semblance could be attributed to those dhabbas back home. The reason for using the cots instead of chairs to have food is unknown .
- the briyanis served here are the fried rice we used to get at chinese restaurants.
- the sunset points have the sun setting a 10degree above the horizon..( geographically they are north of tropic of cancer so ..)
- people could not comprehend there can be a language other than hindi.
- the hotel owners have a good knowledge of the advantage of internet advertising however bad their rooms are.
- the railway stations are far from clean but the airports are cleaned round the clock.
